About St John

St John Ambulance Australia is a charitable and community driven organisation that aims to be the leading provider of first aid training, services and products in Australia. Our Youth program promotes young people as vital and valued members of the community, who learn to provide help when it is needed.

Benefits

What are the benefits of the program?

There are many! Here are just some:

Join the adventure

St John Ambulance is a self-funding, not-for-profit charitable organisation. All uniformed first aid personnel (including adult members and youth members) are volunteers who receive no payment.

Most States and Territories change a small registration fee or annual, term or weekly subscription for being involved in the St John Junior and Youth program. St John may also charge extra activity fees for excursions, camps or special activities in your group/division. As St John is a charitable, not-for profit organisation, these fees or subscriptions help us to offset the costs of providing our youth development programs.

If you are unable to meet financial contributions, please discuss this with your Leaders— St John can often ensure that the opportunities offered by us are available to everyone.

Uniforms

A St John uniform is worn by both Juniors and Youth Members. It helps members of the public to recognise our volunteers who are trained in first aid. The Leaders of your local group/division will be able to assist with information relating to uniform and any associated costs.

Safety

Protecting the
rights and wellbeing of children

Protecting the rights and wellbeing of children and vulnerable people is very important in St John and we are committed to safeguarding children and vulnerable people from harm. As a parent or guardian, you will naturally have concerns about the care of your child when they attend activities outside of the home.

This is why St John has developed strong standards and guidelines for adult members who engage with children and vulnerable people in our organisation.

National Child and Vulnerable Persons’ Safety Rules, Standards and Guidelines

All adult Leaders of Youth Divisions in St John will undergo specific training to help prepare them for the role. This includes training in leadership and management and annual child safety training.

Our Child and Vulnerable Persons’ Safety Awareness Training involves St John Leaders learning about recognising of signs of abuse/neglect in children and vulnerable people, what to do/how to act if a child or vulnerable person discloses abuse and procedures for reporting abuse in their State/Territory. In addition, all adults working with children and vulnerable people are screened in line with State/Territory legislative requirements and the organisation’s Child and Vulnerable Persons’ Safety Rules, Standards and Guidelines.

The National Child and Vulnerable Persons’ Safety Rules, Standards and Guidelines can be viewed by clicking here.
